On leaving the synagogue, Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them. When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him. Dear Jesus, Help us to remember that St. Louise is our parish that is composed of all types of people, all of which are children of God. Its pews will be filled, if we help fill them. It will do great work, if we work. It will make generous gifts to many causes, if we are generous. It will bring other people into its fellowship, if we bring them. St. Louise will be a Church of loyalty, love, faith, and noble spirit, if we who make it what it is, are filled with these qualities. Therefore, with the help of God, we shall dedicate ourselves to the task of being all the things that we want our Church to be. MAKING CHRIST'S CHURCH We love our Church, with all her limitations, and her riches too, she is our Mother. For this reason we respect her, and while we do so, we dream that she will never lose her beauty. May she be the Church where it is good to live, where your can breathe, and say what you think-a Church of Freedom. A Church which listens before speaking and welcomes instead of judging, forgives without wishing to condemn, and announces rather than denounces. A Church of mercy and of where the simplest of our brothers and sisters will understand what the others are saying. Our Church will be where the wisest of leaders will know that he doesn't know all, and where the people of God will be revealed in its entirety-a Church of wisdom. -Adapted from a 1966 Pastoral letter of Bishop Guy Droubaix-SntDenis, France God's Commandments |
