Jesus promised his apostles to wait for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit after his ascension into Heaven. We celebrate this gift of God that he gives to us on Pentecost Sunday. When the apostles were gathered together, the Holy Spirit came down on them as a fiery tongue, resting upon their heads, and they began the proclaim "the mighty works of God".
Once Christians are Baptized, they continue their earthly-spiritual journey by receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. They are enriched with the special strength of the Holy Spirit, are more perfectly bound to the Church as true witnesses of Christ, and become more obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.
The Confirmation Preparation
program is a two-year program beginning in the sixth and seventh grade. Students generally receive the
Sacrament of Confirmation in the eighth grade. Preparation for Confirmation
includes the candidates attending classes regularly, completing outside assignments, and
participating in retreats and other activities designed to help the
students understand the true meaning of this Sacrament. Confirmation
candidates are also required to spend a certain number of "service
hours" doing charity work and helping those less fortunate.
